Apparently, aspen trees in the western states have been dying off mysteriously according to scientists at the United States Forest Service. Compounding the problem, aspen trees normally reproduce through vegatative regeneration (e.g. tree roots ’spout’ little tree clones), so once the tree roots die, aspens cannot produce new offspring.
